Your 45 is one of my favorites and it's only been a recent discovery for me since it doesn't appear on many comps. Did you guys record any more material? Do you have any pictures??? We'd all love to see/hear them!
DanDanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13245795096492126532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203456806956251753.post-40510116120490397012014-05-02T15:58:48.308-04:002014-05-02T15:58:48.308-04:00How nice to stumble on an image of our long-lost T...How nice to stumble on an image of our long-lost T.O.N.K. disc. We were a mid-to-latter 60s group with a faithful following around Philly and, during summers, at the Jersey shore, which had a wild music club scene back then. As the only English major among us, I admired the wit of Robinson's lines, and thought they might be fun to set to music. The flip side, White Knight, was my attempt at a (very thinly) veiled extended metaphor for...how shall I say...carnal knowledge. We were young, and determined to be naughty! Alas, two of us are gone now -- lead guitar (and later dental surgeon) Vic De Lucas, and rythym guitar Jim Murphy, a real good rock vocalist. Good times. Thanks for evoking them at your blog.

- Frank Dineen Le Mot Justehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10370754652446930327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203456806956251753.post-5332988020368584042013-08-25T10:20:37.048-04:002013-08-25T10:20:37.048-04:00Fixed.Fixed.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13245795096492126532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203456806956251753.post-42294560687944488572013-08-25T01:48:46.839-04:002013-08-25T01:48:46.839-04:00Sorry to say, Dan. He was the lead singer in a group called the Denims who did play around NYC including Ondines. He was in the original cast of Hair. Per web info on Patty D'Arbonville (also a NYC club scene regular in the late 60's),she married singer, actor, farmer (?) Steve Curry in 1980 to be divorced shortly after. He is also supposedly to have married Susan Holtz (also NYC club regular in the late 60's), with whom he had children (Florida ?). I was a latecomer to the show (inexplicably!), but from the first episode I was hooked, and plowed through all three seasons on DVD in a matter of weeks.

I'm a lifelong fan of this music, and the few bits of obscure trivia--such as I've come across over the years and can provide here from time to time--are a very small price to pay for your incredible generosity in sharing your 45s with the world. They were a huge Manhattan discotheque attraction (Ondine, Arthur, Cheetah, Metropole et al.) in '66, fronted by the flamboyant Steve Curry, who had Broadway aspirations as you might guess from his ultra-dramatic vocal style on "Ghost" and "White Ship". He'd been in some B'way plays before The Denims, and it seems the group was formed around Curry--maybe by his agents initially, and probably in the tony northern Queens/Western Nassau border region (Great Gatsby country). "Adler Sock" and their other advertising song "Salty Dog Man" (hawking jeans) indicate connections on Madison Ave. Maybe a Denims-like group will show up in Don Draper's office on MAD MEN around Season 6 if the show goes on that long!

Their first non-advertising release was "I'm a Man" on Columbia and "White Ship" on Mercury was their last. Both sides of their 2nd Columbia 45 ("Sad Girl"/"Everybody Let's Dance") are eminently forgettable. Curry got a major part in the original production of HAIR after the group split, grew progressively weirder with increasing immersion in the freak world, shacked up in the Village with Shelley Plimpton for a time, and seems to have dropped off the face of the earth by the early '70s. I'd love to know what became of him.transoniqnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3203456806956251753.post-5798784709243590242010-05-11T02:01:44.802-04:002010-05-11T02:01:44.802-04:00thx for another great
